Unlucky 13

Fred

There are now 13 people on this blog. That is too many people. (Anshul, darling, this is not aimed at you) Anyway, some of you people don't post, or if you do post, it is totally lame. If this continues, I will kill you through the internet. Don't laugh, it's not a joke. Kill you. Through the internet. Fair warning.

Hello everyone

Anshul

Well..hi everyone. Dalia, thanks for the invite. A littile about mysefl: I am Anshul. I recently graduated UCI with Psychology (there are so many reasons why I dont call it degree/diploma..anyways). I like taking pictures and I guess I am not in a habit of posting them on facebook(I guess that requires no explaination as well) so thankyou D for letting me post them here.

I took this close to Ghirardelli Square, San Francisco.

and i will hold on to this jackhammer for dear life
and i will wear scratched safety goggles while I do it
and i will cut through the concrete and the rock
and i will not wait for the dirty ash to settle
and i will pierce the skin of the earth to the place where it is soft and wet
and i will dig out the loam from between the tree roots and the electricity lines, the loam pierced through with worm trails and studded with gray pebbles, the fleshy dirt and mud
and i will measure the right depth for the hole with a piece of string and a ruler and my thumbs and make sure with pendulum and divining rod
and i will shovel it rectangular and carefully arrange the dirt of the hole around its edges, those edges straight and stark and distinct
and i will pull that dirt down upon my head and shoulders and taste it with the tips of my fingers and the end of my tongue
and i will fall there in the earth
so that I may die and be lifted up

Polaroid Manipulation #2

Daisy

I did not have much time to think about my technique because the film was developing very quickly. It was a very hot day in Riverside (what a surprise!) and I didn't bring anything that would help me cool the polaroids and slow the development. I used a pen cap for most of the outlining work on this one. For the previous picture, I used a water bottle cap. Not too impressive but it was my first try. I still have five prints left so hopefully I will be more successful at manipulating those. If you want to learn more about the soon-to-be-lost art of polaroid manipulation, click here and here.

Polaroid Manipulation #1

This is Madeline and Monique at Fairmount Park. I caught them sun bathing by the lake. As soon as they noticed I was taking their picture with the intent of posting it on the internet, they got up and tried to cover up. Unfortunately for them, I'm a fast shooter and they were stiff from laying out for so long.

i have a 170 page pdf document detailing my plans
Ryan: my funding, which youll find in footnote 32 of page 113:
i'll put away a quarter every day in a moon-shaped bank
and call my friend who does model rockets
Fred: I thought you were planning on getting magical money moon ponies
Ryan: that is irrelevant
Ryan: MOON CITIES
that is what matters
also, we will make money with the ensuing cheese harvests
Ryan: and, uh, GREEN ENERGY
Fred: yeah
for our new GREEN ECONOMY
it's environmental and biodegradable and organic and everything
I swear
Ryan: IT'S GOT....SOY
AND RECYCLING
HYBRIDS
UM
Fred: SMOKEY THE BEAR
Ryan: GAS PRICES GOING DOWN
Fred: FLYING HOVERCRAFT CARS
Ryan: NO
WE WILL HAVE FLYING HOVERCRAFT TANKS
WITH MORE EFFICIENT WEAPONS TO AID IN PEACEKEEPING
WHICH WE WILL OVERSEE FROM OUR AMERICAN MILITARY BASE ON THE AMERICAN MOON
THESE COLORS DON'T RUN

It must be said that I very much dislike flying. I have a moderate case of agoraphobia, pretty severe motion sickness, and a highly active imagination. As we taxied up the runway, I stared morbidly out the window at the swiftly tilting plant, contemplating hijackings and mechanical failures. Maintenance errors and freak accidents I had studied in my transportation class dredged themselves out of their summer exile for this special occasion. I stolidly waited for a sudden chill and shaken heart to grip me as we lifted off. So imagine my surprise when our plane lifted from the ground, the earth quickly receded away, and I felt... not a thing. I looked curiously at the ground with no manic terror at all. Some things do change, I guess.

Rue de Navigation

Dalia

Perspective whirls with every globe,
Every enclave, super-rich.
There is dynamite in fertile soil.

Mighty monsters bite their nails,
fumigating lights from their credits.

Minstrels chiming bite their hunger,
consuming their last debris.

All navigating veins
of city-spells and country-vines.

Hollyhocks and gullies of fern
Trapeze before flashing lights.

Middled-out melon rinds
disperse in plastic flames.

Rats flit and flicker
past carousel shambles.

Marble steps lead to ceiling paintings,
when market prices are each to each.

At street crossings,
magnolias and firewood are here and to come.
